On November 18, 2024, the Faculty of Pharmacy hosted a learning activity titled “Unveiling the Silent Killer: Cyanide in Forensic Investigations” led by Dr. Suthira Yanaso and Asst. Prof. Dr. Aranya Jutiviboonsuk. This event brought together professors and students in the fields of criminology and forensic science from four institutions in the Philippines: Panpacific University, Manuel S. Enverga University Foundation, Our Lady of Fatima University, and Calayan Educational Foundation, Inc.
The session focused on educating participants about the hidden dangers of cyanide, a potentially lethal substance that can often be found in everyday environments. It covered the basics of cyanide poisoning and treatment methods, as well as standard techniques for both qualitative and quantitative analysis of cyanide in various samples. Participants had the opportunity to engage in hands-on experiments, testing for the presence of cyanide in both liquid and solid forms. The activity culminated with an insightful discussion of the results, leaving participants with a deeper understanding of the substance’s significance in forensic investigations. The event concluded with a positive impression on all those involved.
